Suzhou, Venice of the East

I went on a weekend trip with Nicholas and Felix to Suzhou. That’s a small town near Shanghai, just 8 million people and 2 hours by high-speed train.

The scariest part was that we stayed at a hostel! Shared bathrooms and showers…

The old city was nice, but nothing spectacular. There were plenty of gardens and temples but each one charged 20-50元 for entry. Luckily we got discounts everywhere by showing the Zhejiang University student passes.

Rich place, even the trash cans were Louis Vuitton:

And finally, a small town’s small railway station:

Fake Campus

So I’m back in China now after a relaxing weekend in Finland (as well as A330,B787,B737,A319 and E90). The week started with a character test and everyone in the class was well prepared for it. We also got 4 new students.

Today me and Nicholas went to the main campus in order to buy ZheDa t-shirts and pullovers. They only had XXXL or XS sizes, so that was a fail. The disturbing thing was that our campus is a fake campus. The main campus was built in 2006 and is really new and shiny with artificial lakes, rivers and beautiful gardens. No wonder they fleece us off at the fake campus to pay the other one off.

This is what the main campus is like:
